In 1983 Duluth, MN based new wave group Fever Dream self- released what is believed to be their one and only album. Outside of the ten songs on this record and a series of mysterious videos little else is known about its creators. Chaperone Records (Retribution Gospel Choir, Southwire, et al) is pleased to announce the re-release of this obscure gem from northern Minnesota.

And how exactly did Chaperone come in contact with this relic? Marc Gartman, a musician living and working in Duluth, MN (Two Many Banjos, Coyote) found the LP while searching through vinyl at the Record Cave in Superior, WI. Intrigued by the artwork and the 99-cent price tag he figured it was worth the chance. What he found on it he deemed worthy of the attention of head Chaperone Bob Monahan. Bob was interested in putting out the album but only if Gartman agreed to play shows in support of the songs. In the spirit of how and when the music was produced Marc plays on a vintage keyboard and drum machine.

It should be noted that while there were attempts to locate the original artist(s) who created Fever Dream little has been discovered. The debut album sleeve held very little information and outside of a couple of local barflies maybe remembering something, not much else is known. Anyone with any further information is encouraged to contact Gartman or Chaperone Records.

There are outlaws, and there are outlaws. Some practice the pose and cultivate the image, though seldom dirty their soft, bourgeois hands with anything actually outside the law. When they do, it is often despicable, irresponsible or just plain mundane. The Actual Wolf, however, is a real outlaw and has pled guilty to it. Between the bust and before the trial AW recorded a pair of EPs, each showing ‘another side of the Wolf’. The first is USA, an everyman’s acoustic album that channels both Woody and Zimmerman on a smuggler’s road trip on the cop-laden corridor of the I-80.

The second—Lightning & the Wolf— conjures a 30-something’s symphony to Gawd, a rock EP at times so ethereal that it floats like smoke up into the aether, at others so earthy & grounded you can almost feel the parole. This is not music that pleads for forgiveness—the man has given his freedom as a sacrament at the altar of his beliefs. Rather, these are songs of redemption. Actual Wolf has paid a price, but like many deals with devils, seems to have come out the greater for it.

Following the disillusion of his marriage and his art-noise band, I am the slow dancing umbrella, Ring decided to sit down and teach himself to write a pop song. 72 songs later, he gave the recordings to a trusted editor, who winnowed them down to the essentials. The result is “I Might Love You”, a collection of love songs built around artful arrangements and lyrics, both heartbreaking and hopeful. Sounding like the lovechild of Elliot Smith and Brian Wilson, any song on “I Might Love You” could begin as a forlorn dirge, mutate into an ecstatic anthem and then melt back upon itself.
